The dissident body in El ángel de Sodoma by Alonso Hernández-Catá and Hombres sin mujer by Carlos Montenegro

Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyze the representations of dissident bodies in the novels El ángel de Sodoma by Alonso Hernández-Catá and Hombres sin mujer by Carlos Montenegro, which are considered pioneering works of Cuban homoerotic literature. These bodies will be examined through the lens of gender dichotomies and the states of desire generated by heteronormativity. The article will also explore how the narratives construct the characters based on physiological assertions that, given the historical context, determine their identity, social behavior, and sexuality, thereby contributing to a symbolic network that organizes bodies.
