The Dialectic of Space in Como el mundo by Jesús Gardea

Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyze the spatial representation in Jesús Gardea’s short story Como el mundo. It examines the nature of the spatial description, the ways in which exterior and interior spaces are linked, the possible interpretations that may arise, and the extent to which space influences the development of the story, considering the way the characters move and unfold within it. As a theoretical framework, this study draws on various works concerning literary space, highlighting the theoretical proposals of Mieke Bal —regarding descriptive aspects— and Gaston Bachelard —regarding symbolic dimensions—.
