Discourse, Power and Hegemony: some Sociosemiotic Theories

Abstract

Sociosemiotics is distinguished by having in its theoretical center the category of “discourse” and by insistently asking about its power relations. In this presentation we propose to see from a theoretical point of view those authors that have emphasize in the conflictive dimension of the production of the social sense and the strugles for the imposition of sense, establishing relations between Voloshinovs work and his marxist philosophy of language, until the re-reading of Angenot, who proposes the notion of “discursive hegemony” as central in some of his works.
